Open this case in the interactive AtlasCase description
On 11 January 2014 at about 16:25, a witness at Pont-Saint-Pierre was looking at the Moon in what the account describes as a cloudy sky when up to 8 bright white lights appeared successively, wheeling silently before moving along a straight path and disappearing. The narrative says they disappeared after a few minutes, but also states that the observation lasted 15 seconds. No other account was obtained. GEIPAN's analysis, in contrast to the initial description of cloud, cites a clear, bright sky and good visibility. It also cites the Sun's low position above the horizon, the contrast effect, the objects' visible shape, and geometry favorable to strong sunlight reflection toward the witness. GEIPAN concludes that these conditions would have allowed ordinary white birds flying at high altitude to be seen reflecting sunlight strongly toward the observer. The case is classified B: a probable sighting of birds flying at high altitude.
