On 6 March 2014 at 08:41 in Villeurbanne (69), a witness saw a dark horse-shaped object moving in the sky and apparently rotating. He took photographs and video, placing it about 300 m from his observing position. GEIPAN finds the photographs and behaviour fully consistent with a helium-filled child's balloon shaped like a winged horse, a readily available design for which the source gives examples. Such balloons were particularly common for the Chinese calendar's Year of the Horse. The shape is very clear in the photograph, even showing the string normally used to keep it tethered. The case is classified A: identified child's balloon.
