SAINT-REMY-LES-CHEVREUSE (78) 09.03.2014

On 9 March 2014 at 19:50, a witness at home saw a faint light pass through the sky for a few seconds, followed by a long white trail. GEIPAN considers a luminous ball with a trail crossing in a straight line in 2–3 seconds characteristic of a fireball (see the fireball explanation). BOAM’s amateur automatic-camera network did not record it, perhaps because it was too faint. Cameras in eastern France did record 2 other fireballs that evening, at 21:03 and 23:28. GEIPAN received a direct account from Saint-André-de-Cubzac (33), near Bordeaux, of a sighting that day between 19:30 and 19:45 which may correspond. Directions match, but reported times do not exactly coincide. Without confirmation, the case is provisionally classified B: probable fireball. GEIPAN notes many fireball sightings overall in February and March.
