BOURG-EN-BRESSE (01) 18.03.2014

On Tuesday 18 March 2014 at about 20:30, a couple walking in Bourg-en-Bresse (01) saw 4 steady pale-orange lights in a clear sky, apparently outlining a dark trapezoid. They moved silently at constant speed along a straight line. The reporting witness looked away and could not find the object again. Only 1 account was collected. GEIPAN finds orange lights moving horizontally and silently with the wind strongly suggest sky lanterns, probably released after a celebration. Perceiving a dark shape between jointly moving lights is a common Gestalt effect. The witness saw them depart east or northeast, compatible with the light southwest wind recorded at Lyon-Satolas; see the weather data. GEIPAN classifies the case B: probable sky lanterns. It did not seek the person responsible for the release.
