ULLY-SAINT-GEORGES (60) 16.04.2014

On 16 April 2014 at about 20:00 in Ully-Saint-Georges (60), a witness photographing birds noticed a rapidly flashing light. Through the camera he saw a translucent black object appear and quickly disappear, but it was not captured in the photographs. No other account was collected. The investigation report finds conditions favourable to strong sunlight reflections from parts of an airliner towards the witness, anticollision and/or navigation lights, and compatible speed and distance. GEIPAN concludes that he probably saw an airliner whose fuselage or another part strongly reflected the setting Sun. The case is classified B: probable airliner illuminated by sunset.
