SAUVAGNON (64) 23.04.2014

On 23 April 2014 at 13:28, a witness watching clouds in Sauvagnon (64) saw a white sphere pass silently, followed by several others. GEIPAN considered released rubber balloons because they appeared as small spheres below the cloud layer. Nearby Pau Météociel records show wind shifting from southeast at 10:00 to northwest at 14:00 as cloud cover increased. The wind around 13:30 is uncertain but likely north to northwest, opposite the observed movement. Flightradar24 showed no aircraft traffic in the area. The balloon hypothesis could only fit if wind varied more frequently than the hourly records reveal. Without simultaneous wind data at the site, GEIPAN classifies the case C: insufficient information.
