Case description

The title dates this Saint-Pey-de-Castets case to 25 April 2014; the narrative gives 24 April at about 22:40. A witness on a balcony saw a white luminous sphere followed by an elongated cigar-shaped object with green and red lights and white lights along its length. They traveled north to south, according to the summary. No sound was heard, convincing the witness that an aircraft was impossible. No other account was collected. Despite high strangeness, the evidence is sufficient to identify an artificial satellite, specifically NOSS 3-6 Rocket, and an airliner of the B737 or A330 type. Reconstructed trajectories match the UAPs perfectly, as do their descriptions. The witness's failure to recognize an aircraft is understandable: the source explains that sound could not have reached the witness because of the distance and wind opposing the aircraft-to-witness direction. The witness also wrongly believed aircraft did not follow that route. An unusual, rapid succession of a satellite and an airliner on the same apparent path and at the same angular elevation could readily prevent both from being recognized. The case is classified A: satellite and airliner misidentification.
