SAINTE-MARIE (974) 05.05.2014

On 5 May 2014 at 18:40, a witness and a female friend saw a flashing white light cross west to east in 20 seconds. Only 1 account was collected. Calsky lists Sinosat 2 Rocket, the third stage used to launch Sinosat 2, passing west to east at 18:33 that day. Another observer's online report estimated a photometric period of 4–4.5 seconds (see the Sinosat document). The source considers this compatible with the witness's report of 4 seconds lit followed by 2 seconds dark, retaining both differing timing descriptions. GEIPAN classifies the case A, fully identified as Sinosat 2 Rocket. The 20-second sighting was much shorter than the complete 6-minute pass because the witness saw only its highest portion, above 75° elevation.
