Case description
On 13 May 2014 at 17:35 local time over the English Channel, a pilot reported an intriguing luminous phenomenon to air-traffic control: 1 or 2 silver balls to the aircraft's left. No other account for that date had been collected at the time of the source.
The very brief report gives no duration or direction of motion. The Sun was to the aircraft's right, at azimuth 255°, described as southwest, and elevation 36°. Caen weather records indicated substantial cloud cover.
If the left-hand phenomenon moved at the aircraft's speed in the same direction, it could have been a glory, also termed a Brocken spectre or pilot's halo, appearing on cloud opposite the Sun. Atmospheric entry of space debris or a meteoroid was another possibility.
GEIPAN classifies the case C: insufficient detail and information.
