In this Villerbon case dated 14 May 2014, a witness saw a cigar-shaped phenomenon near an airliner. He ruled out a shadow and thought the aircraft and unidentified object were flying together. The attached investigation report reaches the opposite conclusion. The observer, aircraft and Sun were positioned favorably for a cast shadow; similar examples exist; the aircraft and phenomenon moved together; the phenomenon appeared slightly larger than an aircraft; and clouds were immediately nearby. The case is classified A: a definite sighting of the aircraft's shadow on a layer of uncondensed microparticles at a nearby altitude, as described by the source.
