On 15 May 2014 at about 23:00, a gendarmerie helicopter patrolling above Lyon used an onboard camera to film a bright, strongly twinkling UAP for more than 10 minutes. The stationary light was visible to the naked eye for 2.5 hours.
Several parameters identify Antares (see the investigation report): a long observation, described in the analysis as more than 2.5 hours; an apparently fixed sky position; strong scintillation visible even when the image became a “truncated crown” artifact, as often occurs for stars at low elevation; and the angular proximity of the Moon and UAP, located in the video.
Strangeness is low and mainly reflects the unfamiliar appearance and strong twinkling seen by witnesses who had not previously used the camera to observe the sky. The account provides relatively little information and therefore weak evidential support, but the usable video assists the analysis.
The case is classified A: definite misidentification of Antares.
