EZE (06) 16.05.2014

On 16 May 2014 at 21:15 in Eze (06), a witness photographed a white spherical light twice, intrigued by its appearances and disappearances. The observation lasted 5 minutes. He supplied 2 photographs to GEIPAN, but the video also recorded was not received. No other account was reported. The investigation found that its measured azimuth intersected aircraft approach paths to Nice airport, its altitude matched approaching aircraft, and the viewing distance allowed only the landing light or lights to be distinguished. GEIPAN classifies the case A: a confirmed sighting of an airliner approaching Nice airport; see the investigation report.
