PAUILLAC (33) 31.05.2014

In Pauillac (33) on 31 May 2014 around 23:00, a witness saw a group of orange balls for a few minutes. GEIPAN considers the Saturday-evening sighting suggestive of sky lanterns released after a party. Looking west into a light wind made them appear stationary. Their cornucopia-like arrangement could have been a perspective effect from lanterns nearly aligned with the wind. Meteociel recorded a light westerly wind around 10 km/h at Bordeaux; see the weather record. No other account was collected. The case is classified B: probable sky lanterns.
