Case description
On Monday 2 June 2014 at about 22:45, 3 friends looking through a window saw a red-orange ball move at constant speed through a clear sky. No sound was heard during the 3–4 minute observation.
A bright, fireball-like glow of that duration suggests a windborne sky lantern. Météociel recorded a very light north wind at Besançon. However, weekday releases are uncommon, and a single light provides less support for the hypothesis. The weak, variable wind also prevents confirming that it drifted with the wind.
The low strangeness, due to resemblance to a known phenomenon, and delay exceeding 8 months before GEIPAN received the account did not justify a field investigation.
GEIPAN classifies the case C.
