PLOBSHEIM (67) 14.06.2014

On the night of 14 June 2014 at Plobsheim, a witness saw 21 yellow-orange balls cross the sky in a few minutes and had time to take photographs and videos. No other account was collected. GEIPAN considers the description strongly suggestive of sky lanterns, probably released nearby at the end of a private party on this weekend night. Their northeast-to-southwest movement was consistent with the northeasterly wind recorded at Strasbourg. Although the witness reported no wind, the measured wind was fairly strong, at 20–30 km/h; GEIPAN suggests the houses sheltered the witness. GEIPAN classifies the case B: probable sky lanterns.
