Open this case in the interactive AtlasCase description
On 26 June 2014 at 17:48, a witness noticed a black point in the sky over Saint-Mandé (94), thought it might be a parachutist (see the questionnaire sketch), and filmed it with a phone. The witness moved to avoid the Sun and lost sight of it. Only when later reviewing the video did the witness think it appeared to follow a trajectory. Only 1 account was collected.
An object apparently floating above Paris is somewhat unusual, and the witness thought a parachutist there highly improbable. Enquiries established that the prefecture sometimes authorizes parachute jumps for specific missions. GEIPAN found no parachuting club that had made such a jump; these are probably reserved for professional activities.
An unusually shaped child's helium balloon, released accidentally, is another possibility. The light, highly variable wind at Paris-Montsouris fits either explanation (see Météociel).
Without better images or identification of a possible parachutist, GEIPAN classifies the case C: insufficient information or corroboration. Strangeness is low because several relatively ordinary causes could explain it.
