Case description
On 29 June 2014 from 21:30, a witness in Vierzon (18) saw an unfamiliar white craft moving straight across the sky. No wings, contrail or navigation lights were visible, but a low, muffled noise continued throughout. He took a phone photograph.
GEIPAN explains that aircraft often produce no contrail, depending on local humidity and temperature. At sunset a high aircraft can be illuminated from the side, with unlit wing undersides darker than the bright blue sky. Only the illuminated fuselage then stands out from the ground, appearing cigar-shaped. The source also states that high-altitude anti-collision lights are not visible from the ground in daylight.
Flightradar recorded a matching north-to-south flight, AF6168, an Airbus A320 from Paris to Toulouse. The case is classified as A: observation of an airliner at sunset.
