In the Lacs (36) case dated 12 July 2014, a witness on his bed turned toward the window and saw a large red-orange ball of light connected to a smaller one. They moved slowly and silently, apparently very close above the roof.
He placed their origin toward Sainte-Sévère-sur-Indre and destination toward Thevet-Saint-Julien, southeast to northeast, giving an overall south-to-north path. Châteauroux weather records showed a light southerly wind at 01:00, varying toward southwest or west. The object could therefore have been windborne.
GEIPAN notes that sky-lantern releases are frequent on summer weekends, especially around 14 July, and that the account fits. It classifies the case as B: probable sky lanterns. The witness also mentioned a similar sighting with several balls, which GEIPAN considers probably of the same origin.
