Open this case in the interactive AtlasCase description
On 17 July 2014 at about 23:00, a witness and his son saw repeated flashes from a fixed position in the sky for 40 minutes. Their appearance and brightness resembled stars. With help from the Aix-en-Provence planetarium, he identified the constellation Scorpius. The next night, watching the same area with his children, he saw 3 fainter flashes at 23:10. Only 1 account was collected.
GEIPAN rates both strangeness and evidential support as moderate, with several witnesses but only 1 account. It considers a rapidly rotating geostationary satellite probable. Several were present in the indicated area, and at least one is known to rotate rapidly.
The case is classified B: probable rapidly rotating geostationary satellite.
