On 17 July 2014 at about 00:15, a witness in Avignon (84) saw a yellow-orange point, similar in color to stars, follow a peculiar path: straight, descending, turning back and then zigzagging upward before disappearing very rapidly. No other account was collected.
The investigation considered the time and duration, starting and ending azimuths, good visibility and exceptional apparent brightness of satellite ISIS 1, together with micro-nystagmus or the autokinetic illusion. GEIPAN initially concludes that the account probably concerns Arcturus followed by ISIS 1. However, an important aspect of the sighting does not fit. Confusion or a false memory could explain the discrepancy, but no evidence supports adopting that explanation.
The case is classified as C for lack of corroboration either to confirm the ISIS hypothesis or to establish the reported complex motion.
