GLEIZE (69) 19.07.2014

In Gleizé (69) on 19 July 2014 at 22:35, about 20 lights crossed the night sky silently over a few minutes. The summary gives north-to-south travel, whereas the narrative says south to north. GEIPAN finds a weekend-night group like this strongly suggestive of sky lanterns probably released nearby after a private party. At 22:00 Lyon-Bron recorded easterly wind, while Mâcon had very light, highly variable wind from north to west; see the weather records. Since Gleizé lies between these stations, wind direction cannot readily confirm the hypothesis. Nevertheless, GEIPAN considers the description and number of lights to leave little doubt about the cause and classifies the case B: probable sky lanterns.
