A driver saw a blazing orange-red sphere at 23:58 for less than a few minutes on a weekend night. GEIPAN considers it strongly suggestive of a sky lantern released nearby after a private celebration. It seemed to travel south to north, opposite the car’s north-to-south movement. That apparent motion conflicts with the light northerly wind recorded at Dinard.
It is unclear whether the motion was real or a perspective effect: an almost stationary object during the roughly 1-minute sighting could have appeared much farther away than it was. The witness rejected the lantern hypothesis.
No other account was collected. Aerospace and BOAM list no space-debris or meteoroid atmospheric entry in that area at that time.
Given uncertainty about real motion and brightness, GEIPAN classifies the case C for lack of precise information, such as an observation from a stationary witness, or corroboration.
