CLAYE-SOUILLY (77) 31.07.2014

On 31 July 2014 at 23:45, a witness looking from his apartment in Claye-Souilly saw a bright orange object shaped like a flattened rugby ball moving through the night sky. The source says he repeated the observation 3 times in succession. GEIPAN considers red-orange balls silently crossing the sky in a few minutes along the same path strongly suggestive of sky lanterns, probably released nearby after a private party. They moved north to south, compatible with the light northerly wind recorded at Roissy by Météociel. A pause observed along the route could have occurred while passing above a local terrain feature, such as woodland or the Fosses Maloré hill. GEIPAN classifies the case as B: probable sky lanterns. The original photographs supplied are compatible with this explanation.
