At 01:00 on Sunday 3 August 2014, a person in Coublevie (38) was frightened by a fiery ball moving silently and straight past the window. The initial description calls the sighting very brief; the analysis gives a duration of 1 minute and describes slow recession. No additional accounts were collected.
GEIPAN found a fiery ball moving away on a weekend night suggestive of a sky lantern released after a celebration. A nearby hall hosting a wedding made this highly probable, but no release was confirmed. It travelled northeast towards Saint-Étienne-de-Crossey. Grenoble-Le Versoud and Grenoble-Saint-Geoirs weather records showed very light, variable wind, making the local wind in the valley indeterminable. Despite the plausible lantern hypothesis, GEIPAN classified the case C for lack of corroboration, with no other witness and uncertain local wind.
