NARBONNE (11) 08.08.2014

On 8 August 2014 at midnight during a thunderstorm in Narbonne, a witness saw a blue-white point of light in the clouds. It disappeared and reappeared a few metres farther along, as estimated by the witness. GEIPAN considers luminous points in a heavily clouded, stormy sky—where the witness also described at least 1 lightning flash—probably consistent with ball lightning. It did not receive the video mentioned by the witness and could not confirm the hypothesis, which it nevertheless considered reasonably probable. The case is classified B: probable ball lightning.
