On 22 August 2014 at about 01:10 in Autun (71), a witness heard 2 cries in the night. Approaching a roof window, he saw directly overhead for a few seconds a metallic-colored disk surrounded by small reddish-pink beams. He followed its silent movement through the cloudy sky for about 20 seconds in total. No other account was collected. GEIPAN judges the evidential strength good: a precise account, though from one witness and without photographs. The circular shape, beams, very rapid motion, cloud ceiling and absence of sound support rapidly moving Skytracker-style laser beams projected onto the base of low clouds; see the investigation report. GEIPAN considers the unusualness low because the behavior is ultimately ordinary for such lights. It classifies the case as B: probable observation of laser beams illuminating low cloud.
