On 30 August 2014 at about 23:40, several people saw approximately 70 twinkling lights move silently across the night sky in the same direction, disappearing at the zenith. Only 1 account was collected. An attempted phone photograph was unsuccessful.
The account is typical of a lantern release. The witness compared it to many stars traveling together and described a northward course seemingly led by objects at the front, with others following like a flotilla.
The source explains that the group followed an air current, which can wind through mountainous terrain. It calls the overall trajectory compatible with a light wind from the north recorded nearby (see Météociel), despite the described northward travel. A summer weekend night in a holiday area is conducive to festive events. Flickering lantern flames can also suggest “Morse signals.”
GEIPAN classifies the case B: sky lanterns, described as probable in the summary.
