Case description

On 1 September 2014 at 12:55 in Presly (18), a witness drawn by aircraft noise saw a point of light cross the sky in a straight line. No other account was collected. Daytime moving points can be sunlight reflected by aircraft or satellites. Attached FlightRadar records show many airliners overhead travelling north-northwest to south-southeast, but none in the reported northeast-to-southwest direction. A high-altitude military aircraft absent from FlightRadar cannot be excluded. Attached Calsky records list many satellites over the area, ordinarily invisible by day. At least 4 had matching northeast-to-southwest paths: SPOT 4, SPOT 5, ARGOS and KOMPSAT. They are not known for daylight flares like Iridium satellites, although such a reflection is not physically impossible. GEIPAN could neither confirm nor exclude these possibilities. This low-strangeness case is classified C: insufficient information and corroboration.
