COLOMBES (92), Ile-de-France, FR
Open this case in the interactive AtlasCase description
In the Colombes (92) case dated 31 October 2014, orange luminous shapes crossed the sky in under 1 minute on a weekend night. GEIPAN considers a nearby sky-lantern release after a private party, possibly Halloween-related, plausible. Movement was described from south toward northeast, or north and east.
Orly recorded light southerly wind at 4–7 km/h, while Toussus and Pontoise recorded southeast wind. These could fit local motion, but proximity to the Seine makes precise local wind uncertain. Crossing a large part of the sky in 12 seconds fits poorly with light wind. Irregularities could reflect nonuniform local air currents, but the overall reported motion does not fit lanterns well; see the witness's reconstruction video.
Because precise weather and corroboration are lacking, GEIPAN classifies the case as C.
