At 21:29 on 20 November 2014, an amateur astronomer at Caluire-et-Cuire (69) saw a small blurred bright ball with warm tones pass through his telescope's eyepiece.
GEIPAN assessed the case as moderately strange and well supported by a very precise single account. It favoured Cosmos 1636, probably surrounded by gas released from remaining propellant in its tanks during an undetermined incident. The UAP's trajectory matched that satellite and the motion was typical of a satellite, but without another witness the explanation could not be corroborated.
GEIPAN explains that it questioned interpretation in the context of the UAP's low brightness and the rarity of the proposed phenomenon, rather than visual perception. The initial description calls it bright while this later passage calls it faint; the source does not clarify the comparison. It classified the case B: probable Cosmos 1636 surrounded by a gas cloud.
