GARDE (LA) (83) 25.12.2014

On 25 December 2014 between 01:20 and 01:29, a witness in La Garde (83) saw 8 lights appear successively in a clear sky. Slightly red at their centers and yellow outside, they all moved silently east toward Hyères. No other account was collected. GEIPAN finds orange balls following the same path over several minutes on Christmas night characteristic of sky lanterns probably released nearby for the celebration. Their movement from north toward east was considered compatible with unstable northerly to northwesterly winds recorded at Hyères by Météociel. GEIPAN classifies the case B: very probable sky lanterns.
