In this Saint-Maixent-l'École case dated 25 December 2014, a witness in his garden saw 2 luminous red balls move gently eastward without flashing or sound, then disappear. GEIPAN considers such lights crossing part of the sky in a few minutes on a festive night strongly suggestive of sky lanterns, probably released nearby after a private party. It regards the eastward movement as compatible with the northwesterly wind recorded at Niort. The case is classified B: probable sky lanterns.
