GUJAN-MESTRAS (33) 14.01.2015

At 18:25 on 14 January 2015, a witness in Gujan-Mestras (33) saw several white lights without a trail, halo or sound. Only 1 account was collected. GEIPAN found several minutes of 2 low points suggestive of celestial bodies nearing setting. Stellarium placed Venus and Mercury west-southwest towards the Dune du Pilat, south of Arcachon, at 8° elevation. They were unusually close and bright. The photograph showed a view about 45° south of the westward axis of allée du Plaçot. GEIPAN classified the case B: observation of Venus and Mercury setting. The imprecise reported direction prevented firm confirmation, despite the categorical wording in the summary.
