Case description

On 2 February 2015 at 01:00, a witness in his courtyard watched a red-orange ball in the sky for 3 minutes and thought it was an aircraft. At 01:40 he saw a very large black craft flying low above neighboring rooftops with all lights off. He described a rounded triangular front with rectangular portholes. As it slowly approached, he noticed a large red-orange ball beneath it resembling a position light. The craft moved very slowly, stopped, emitted thick fog and disappeared while moving backward. He heard no sound. Around 01:55 he watched a large, very bright white star-like point for 1–2 minutes before it suddenly departed at very high speed. He thought it was the earlier craft. Only one account and a photograph of the observation site were collected. Afterward he reported UAPs over Perpignan by day and night. The repeated unusual observations prompted GEIPAN to send a local investigator. During the evening visit on 30 September, despite very overcast conditions, the witness described lights moving through the sky that the investigator could not see. In 25 minutes he commented on 31 UFOs, white points that passed, hid and stopped. He said other people to whom he had tried to point them out also could not see them. He reported receiving artificial lens implants shortly after the February sighting. At that earlier time he wore glasses but was nearly blind. Since the operation he saw 'armadas' or 'myriads' of UFOs every night. GEIPAN considers both the preoperative February observation and repeated postoperative sightings clearly attributable to eye problems. It says he seemed so focused on UFOs that he rejected the possibility of a vision-related cause. GEIPAN classifies the case B: the witness's vision was very probably impaired or disturbed.
