AUBERVILLIERS (93) 08.02.2015

On 8 February 2015 between 00:00 and 00:20, a witness looking through a window in Aubervilliers (93) saw a flickering red glow for barely 10 seconds. It moved silently and horizontally right to left, then suddenly changed direction and disappeared very quickly. GEIPAN finds a red light reportedly less than 30 m away, crossing at constant altitude in under 1 minute on a weekend night, suggestive of a windborne sky lantern released nearby after a private party. The witness initially described southwest-to-southeast movement. Follow-up established that he was looking west-southwest; see the photograph. Right-to-left movement therefore corresponds more nearly to north-northwest toward south-southeast, compatible with northerly wind recorded at Roissy.
