[A7] de PUGET-SUR-ARGENS (83) vers CANNES (06) 19.02.2015

On Thursday 19 February 2015 at about 14:30–15:00, a motorist driving from Puget-sur-Argens (83) toward Cannes (06), on the route labeled A7 in the title, saw an object resembling an airliner but apparently larger and much lower. It was uniformly white, X-shaped, and seemingly stationary before disappearing suddenly. GEIPAN considered several explanations for this brief sighting. An aircraft, as the witness thought, would have occupied a very unlikely position, and its disappearance is difficult to explain. An air corridor exists in that direction, but aircraft would normally be too high to appear so large. GEIPAN processed the report too late to check air traffic. Another possibility was a small, short-lived cloud brightly illuminated by sunlight. A reflection of a white or reflective item inside the car, temporarily sunlit as the car's orientation changed, would explain both the stillness and disappearance particularly well. None could be validated, and no corroboration or further feasible investigation was available. GEIPAN classifies the case C: insufficient information. It considers the event only slightly unusual because the distant phenomenon behaved like known phenomena, and the evidential basis weak because the sole account was brief and unsupported by photographs.
