NAVACELLES (30) 06.05.2015

On 6 May 2015 at about 21:00, a witness in Navacelles noticed numerous trails in the sky and took photographs. One account was reported. GEIPAN's investigation concludes that these were almost certainly persistent airliner contrails. Their appearance matches many other examples of contrails illuminated by the setting Sun in a favorable atmospheric layer, with perspective producing an optical effect. The investigation report describes the account as having very good evidential strength: it is precise and supported by many photographs, although it comes from a single witness. GEIPAN considers the sighting very slightly unusual because the phenomena can be characterized immediately. The case is classified A: a definite sighting of aircraft contrails.
