LIMEIL-BREVANNES (94) 07.05.2015

Very early on 7 May 2015 in Limeil-Brévannes (94), a witness saw a very bright object move silently on a shooting-star-like path. Its rapid passage, apparently much lower than a shooting star, strongly suggests a fireball. The BOAM network reported a video of an apparently similar phenomenon at 02:27 UTC, 04:27 local civil time, from Gretz-Armainvilliers in Seine-et-Marne, towards east-northeast at about 50° elevation; see the attachment. The Eta Aquariid shower makes this season favourable to such sightings, and GEIPAN received other similar series of reports around then. The case is classified A: a fireball from a meteoroid entering the atmosphere, probably from the Eta Aquariids, arriving from the direction of Aquarius.
