On 14 June 2015 between 03:28 and 03:45, a witness saw a large, slightly elongated yellow-orange oval moving unusually in the sky. It alternated silent movements and stops before disappearing. After meeting another person to carpool, both saw the phenomenon again, and later glimpsed it in another municipality before losing sight of it. The witness's photographs and video were unusable. Only one account was collected.
GEIPAN finds the observation fully compatible with a nightclub light display, described in the source as a “sky tracker” laser, operating on a weekend night (see the investigation report). A nightclub in Jouy-sur-Morin lay within the theoretical visibility area. The investigator could not demonstrate that it used such a device that night, but considered the explanation probable in light of the other reported details.
The witness had proposed the same explanation but objected that no beam was visible rising from the ground. GEIPAN explains that a projected beam's visibility depends on local weather, atmospheric pollution and the beam's power. Fine suspended particles, such as water droplets or pollutant particles, are crucial to making the beam visible.
Visibility at the observation time was good, exceeding 20 km, and no precipitation was recorded. GEIPAN therefore considers the conditions favorable for the upward beam to remain unseen. It classifies the case B: probable Sky Tracer or Sky Rose light display.
