On Sunday 14 June 2015 at about 05:10, a witness at a window saw 7–8 orange, spherical luminous phenomena pass successively and silently across the sky. The observation lasted about 10 minutes before they disappeared into cloud. The witness took photographs, but they proved unreadable, and later reported the sighting to the gendarmerie. No other account was collected. No explanation appeared in the local press in the following days.
Orange lights crossing the sky over a few minutes on a weekend night suggest sky lanterns, probably released nearby after a private party.
Their southwest-to-northwest movement would require a south or southeast wind if they were drifting. Météociel records taken at the exact observation location, Dijon air base, show very variable, indeterminate wind at 05:00, with a light southeast wind at 04:00 and east wind at 06:00 (see the weather document). These records neither confirm nor rule out windborne objects.
GEIPAN also requested primary-radar tracks around Dijon for the relevant time. They showed only high-altitude airliners. The witness's unusable photographs are taken by the source as evidence of the lights' faintness.
Although the account fits sky lanterns, there is insufficient evidence to confirm this. GEIPAN classifies the case C: insufficient information and corroboration.
