Around 09:25 on Tuesday 16 June 2015, 2 people on a Cannes beach saw a changing shape in a clear sky. Initially triangular, then round, it consisted of balls alternating between bright flashing ones and non-flashing white or light-grey ones. It then became a straight line of 6 distinct objects, which rose and disappeared at 10:10. No sound was heard. Only 1 account was collected.
GEIPAN considered the appearance, colour, brightness and behaviour, along with sunshine, very light variable transitional winds after a land breeze, and the favourable summer period; see the investigation report. It concluded that the UAP was a set of highly reflective Mylar balloons tied together and buffeted by changing wind.
The account was precise and had good evidential strength, though only one of the observers reported it and no photograph was available. GEIPAN assessed the event as low in strangeness because its appearance and behaviour were readily explainable. The analysis uses the word “certainly”, while the formal conclusion classifies it B: very probable observation of a cluster of Mylar balloons.
