On 24 June 2015 at about 21:45 in Brunstatt (68), a person watching television was drawn to about 10 bright coloured lights moving above a hill and treetops. No sound was heard during roughly 15 minutes of observation. Only 1 account was collected. The source explicitly corrects the witness's questionnaire date of 25 June to 24 June. GEIPAN considers lights crossing the sky in a few minutes suggestive of illuminated balloons, either LED balloons or sky lanterns, probably released nearby after a private celebration, perhaps Saint John's festivities. This passage calls it a weekend night, although the specified date is 24 June 2015. The witness's narrative gives westward movement, but the drawing shows north-northeast to south-southwest; see the map reconstruction. GEIPAN describes the overall movement as north to south, compatible with northwest-to-north wind at Mulhouse-Basel. At 21:00, light northerly wind was 7–11 km/h, turning westerly at 23:00; see Météociel. The case is classified B: probable observation of LED balloons or sky lanterns. The varied colours and long duration favour LED balloons, since sky-lantern flames usually produce predominantly yellow-orange light.
