Case description
At 00:45 on the night of Saturday into Sunday 12 July 2015, several friends in Gainneville (76) saw more than 10 orange balls move silently in straight lines through a clear sky. Only 1 account was collected.
GEIPAN finds their several-minute passage on a weekend night characteristic of sky lanterns, probably released nearby after a private party. Movement from south-southeast toward east matched the westerly wind recorded at Le Havre-Octeville by Météociel. GEIPAN classifies the case B: probable sky lanterns.
