PAPEETE (987) 24.07.2015

The Papeete case title gives 24 July 2015, while the narrative dates the sighting to 27 July 2015 at 20:00 Tahiti time. A witness saw a long incandescent trail travelling east to west, with pieces breaking away. It was watched continuously for 30–40 seconds before disappearing behind clouds. Only 1 account was obtained. GEIPAN cites a re-entry time matching the observation, records on SATOBS, and physical appearance and motion entirely consistent with falling space debris. It classifies the case A: a confirmed sighting of the breakup during atmospheric re-entry of a Soyuz rocket stage catalogued as “15035B/40745.” The source places this on the day after the associated ISS resupply.
