Case description
At 23:02 on 29 August 2015, a couple in Saint-Julien-en-Genevois reported a red ball crossing the night sky silently for about five minutes. One witness tried to photograph it and later thought the image showed characters inside the phenomenon. GEIPAN treated the visual observation and the photograph as separate questions, rather than accepting that the image necessarily recorded the light the couple had watched.
The initial red light was compatible with a sky lantern: its colour, weekend timing and movement with the wind toward Switzerland fitted that interpretation. The photograph, however, was aimed downward toward the public square, for a reason the investigation could not establish. Strong camera movement had blurred ordinary ground-level lights and objects into misleading shapes.
A daytime comparison identified two streetlamps and playground equipment, with a possible balcony railing. Their positions matched the supposed objects; the second lamp had itself been mistaken for another aerial phenomenon. GEIPAN classified the photographic interpretation A, identified. No independently observed beings are established by this report. The reconstruction shows the couple and the ground-level photographic scene, keeping the earlier sky light separate.
