On 7 October 2015 at about 20:20, a resident of Évron (53) saw a light with blue glints in the sky through his window. He saw the UAP again 5 minutes later while going to bed. He called his son, and they watched it together for 2 to 3 minutes. He then called his brother, who lived in a hamlet in the neighboring commune of Sainte-Gemmes-le-Robert (53), to tell him about the sighting, and fetched his camcorder to film it.
After this first observation, he left home with his son at about 21:10 and reached his brother's home around 21:15. His brother was waiting with a neighbor. On getting out of the car, the principal witness saw the UAP again. All 4 people saw a new UAP above a local rise in the terrain. The brother and neighbor went indoors. The principal witness and his son then saw 5 new luminous phenomena above the rise. He tried to film them, but his camcorder would not work. The observation ended at 21:25. The French summary describes the successive lights as stationary.
The witness reported the sighting to the gendarmerie the following day. On 9 October at about 06:00, he saw and filmed 2 further UAPs. He used a Sony DSR PD150 camcorder. He supplied 2 videos: the first, lasting 1 minute 51 seconds, summarizes the 7 October sighting and was posted on YouTube on 10 October; the second, lasting 12 minutes 9 seconds, contains all his footage from the evening of 7 October and the morning of 9 October.
GEIPAN assesses the case as moderately unusual but sufficiently supported by evidence; see the investigation report. It identifies definite misidentifications of Arcturus, Vega, Capella, Aldebaran, Sirius, Jupiter and Regulus. The video quality allows the various UAPs to be located relative to landmarks, while zoomed views show fainter nearby stars. With these elements, a Stellarium check enabled each UAP to be identified with certainty.
The case is classified as A: definite misidentifications of Arcturus, Vega, Capella, Aldebaran, Sirius, Jupiter and Regulus.
