Open this case in the interactive AtlasCase description
On 28 October 2015 at 04:30, a witness in Audierne (29) saw 2 very bright white points initially described as southeast. Over about 30 minutes they moved only slightly along a straight ascending path, with no particular sound. He took 3 photographs before clouds hid them. No other account was collected.
The description matches Venus and Jupiter that night, one above the other a few degrees apart around 10° elevation, with brighter Venus below, as shown by the photograph and Stellarium reconstruction. Follow-up using local landmarks clarified the initially discrepant bearing: he had been looking east. His elevation estimate of around 30° also differed from the approximately 10° shown in the photograph.
GEIPAN classifies the case as A: observation of Venus and Jupiter in conjunction.
