BORDEAUX-SAINT-CLAIR (76), Haute Normandie, FR
Open this case in the interactive AtlasCase description
On Sunday 1 November 2015 at about 07:00, a witness in Bordeaux-Saint-Clair (76) looked at stars and selected a point of light at random. It appeared to split. Viewing and zooming through a camcorder produced an intriguing multicolored diamond shape. No other account was collected.
GEIPAN identifies the point described as due west at the Moon's elevation as Capella. The naked-eye sighting seemed little unusual—the witness initially thought of a satellite—apart from possible scintillation perceived as doubling. The strangeness that prompted the report came from the video. GEIPAN attributes it to familiar camera artifacts when filming and zooming on a star and classifies the case A: Capella.
