LIMEIL-BREVANNES (94) 07.12.2015

On 7 December 2015 at 22:45, a witness in Limeil-Brévannes (94) saw 3 white or red lights high in the sky, forming a triangle and apparently connected. Only 1 account was collected. GEIPAN finds their several-minute passage suggestive of sky lanterns, probably released nearby after a private celebration. Travel south-southwest to north-northeast matched the southerly wind recorded at Orly, 7 km away, by Météociel. GEIPAN notes that lanterns' low intrinsic brightness often leads observers to overestimate distance and therefore speed. Although releases are more common at weekends, the source playfully suggests these might have been released as a message to Father Christmas. GEIPAN classifies the case B: probable sky lanterns.
