Case description
On 30 December 2015 at 07:50, a woman driving around a roundabout saw a large red point of light descend very slowly along a gentle curve in a very clear sky. She watched for 30 seconds and parked, but the light disappeared before she could get her phone out for a photograph. No other account was collected.
She was traveling northwest shortly before sunrise in the southeast. A red point opposite the Sun, which was still just below the horizon, could be sunlight reflected from a high-flying object such as an aircraft. Flightradar showed an aircraft nearly 100 km away to the northwest, descending slowly. Excellent atmospheric visibility in a light north wind made this possible (see Météociel's Nîmes weather record).
GEIPAN classifies the case B: probable sunlight reflection from a high-altitude aircraft. Since the witness was moving, the viewing direction is too imprecise to identify that particular aircraft with certainty. It remains a hypothesis consistent with the account.
